Across generations of Philippine art, this exhibition gathers together artists who have
each shaped the visual language of the nation in singular and enduring ways.
From the restless modernism and human drama of Legaspi and Navarro, to the deeply
human portraiture of BenCab; from the luminous elegance of Westendorp and the
dreamlike meditations of Sansó, to the layered mythologies of Tapaya and the hyperreal
imaginings of Ventura, these works reveal the many ways artists have sought to
understand the world around them. This dialogue continues through the socially
charged allegories of Alvarado, the intimate domestic poetics of Marina Cruz, the tender
figuration of Lydia Velasco, and the distinct visual languages of Winner Jumalon and
Orley Ypon, each contributing a singular perspective to the evolving story of Philippine
art.
Together, these artists form a constellation rather than a chronology. Their works speak
across decades and movements, carrying echoes of cities and provinces, histories and
futures, dreams and reckonings. Gathered from important collections, the exhibition
becomes an encounter not only with remarkable works, but with the ideas, memories,
and artistic lineages that continue to shape Philippine art.
Masters’ Touch celebrates both enduring legacies and evolving practices. Bringing
together National Artists, established masters, and leading contemporary voices, the
exhibition reveals Philippine art as a living continuum. Through these works, the nation’s
story unfolds not in a single voice, but through generations of artists whose visions
continue to inform, challenge, and inspire one another.
