Jea Mina has always dreamt of living underwater.
While kids dreamed of being astronauts weightlessly meandering on the moon, Jea yearned to be in the pitch black of the seabed, manning a submersible. She could not do that in the present, or perhaps in this lifetime, she’ll never be able to. She thus instead ingeniously envisions that journey through her own brand of artwork
Self-taught from Quezon City, Jea’s innate creative propensities lean towards a common denominator – the ocean, through the eyes of a child. Humanity has indeed discovered more of outer space than its own ocean floor, leaving a lot to our artist’s untethered imagination. Of unconventional color palettes, her paintings display bright, vivid scenes that rarely happen in a rather bleak reality. Fusing the majesty of sea creatures with the pure, unbridled joy of childhood, Jea invites her viewers to join her on a mind-bending expedition of kaleidoscope hues that dance and play on the canvas.
Today, she has been in several group exhibits hosted by respectable galleries and art houses in Metro Manila, while relentlessly working for her fast-growing clientele.
The sky is the limit – for our artist, the Hadal Zone is.
