Portraits of Providence brings together the work of twelve young, emerging contemporary artists to explore the powerful and often mysterious influence of fate on the human experience. Through a reinterpretation of the Major Arcana of the tarot, this exhibit delves into how these ancient, archetypal images can illuminate the pivotal moments and destined paths in our lives.
The Major Arcana—from the naive optimism of The Fool to the ultimate completion of The World—serves as a symbolic framework for life’s great journey. It is a roadmap of archetypes, each card representing a universal stage or force that shapes our growth, challenges our beliefs, and guides our choices. This exhibition asks, what does it mean to be at the mercy of the Wheel of Fortune, to confront the transformative power of Death, or to find enlightenment with The Hermit?
Each artist has been challenged to engage with their Major Arcana cards, and translate its timeless symbolism into a contemporary visual language. The resulting works are not mere illustrations; they are deeply personal reflections on destiny, choice, and the unseen forces that steer us. They invite viewers to step beyond the superficial and consider the profound ways in which fate imprints itself on our stories.
Portraits of Providence reveals how these classic symbols of destiny resonate in our modern world. It is an invitation to confront the grand design of our lives, to see our own journeys reflected in these portraits, and to ponder the indelible threads of fate woven into the tapestry of who we are.
