REMNANT MARCH
The exhibition deals with notions of control and surrender, the power of nature, the impact of humankind on the environment, and the changing shapes of society. The premise of control in this instance relates to reason and logic, a power derived from the will. The notion of surrender in contrast, reflects aspects of intuition, chance, acceptance, and unpredictability.

Other thematic elements and motifs such as mountains, volcanoes, urban and built environments, the change of day to night, and spirits present themselves throughout the works. The imagery represents the forces that exert themselves in the world, and the individual’s acknowledgement and reconciliation of these energies.

The installation layout of the paintings is arranged to evoke the colour spectrum, from yellow to orange, orange to red, red to violet, violet to blue, and blue to green. This presentation imparts a sense of movement and atmosphere, of transition from light to dark, and the transformation of light from dusk to dawn.

The design of the paintings supports an integral conceptual and aesthetic structure. The geometry of the support is an extension and expression of the contents and imagery, allowing it to take form and expand unto its own composition. It reflects the desire to construct a composition not constrained to the rectangular, or ‘picture-window’ impression.
