It is through recollection that one finds consolation. Remembering in Solace dives deep into the meaning of comfort in the midst of disarray and explores the realm of memory in stillness. The exhibit explores how the things we remember come in a form of memory and those we make up are the things we imagine and desire. The artists translate these recollections into various interpretations on canvas and other media, somewhat they become remnants of a particular moment in time.
The tactile portrayal of the subjects and the vagueness of human memory are realities that are artistically represented through the breadth of textures and the use of materials in the artworks— an effort to capture the mind’s capacity of remembering things instead of forgetting them. The exhibition is both suggestive of the extent and limitations of the human memory recognizing the agency of the mind as a powerful tool in the formation of myriad of emotions.
Arce, Justine Basa, Tof Zapanta, and Wipo give in to the feeling of their own nostalgia and reflect on the intangibles such as the human memory in an attempt to seek truth by never forgetting.
