The arduous path to Florence stretches before Jayson Pettz Muring as he prepares for his fourth solo exhibition at Altro Mondo Contemporanea. Amidst this artistic odyssey, he unveils “Maharlika,” a captivating series born from his unceasing abstract introspections and the embodiment of his singular visual aesthetic.

Each brushstroke emanates from the depths of his creative essence, forming an ongoing torrent of artistic expression that intertwines with his soulful exploration of form and concept. Through “Maharlika,” Muring invites viewers into a mesmerizing world where abstraction becomes a conduit for profound contemplation, and his bespoke visual language reverberates with resplendent allure.

Embedded within each brushstroke and canvas, Muring’s art pays homage to his cherished hometown of Boac, Marinduque. Growing up amidst the clear waters and sands, he absorbed their essence, infusing their composition and texture into his mesmerizing paintings. Employing a creative process reminiscent of Pollock,

Muring primes his canvas with multiple layers of versatex, allowing a central latex brushstroke to take form and gracefully dry over time. With the finesse of wet-on-wet technique, he delicately adds supporting strokes, akin to water-based media, forming an evocative tapestry.

Within the outpouring of 17 captivating paintings from his Maharlika series, Muring immerses himself in profound contemplation, transposing the essence of freedom onto his canvas. Through his work, he interprets both the 14th Florence Biennale’s theme “I am You” and his personal philosophy—a vision where freedom blossoms through unimpeded thoughts, embracing the sovereignty of others.
