In “Lucid Dreams,” abstract artist Josep Pascual takes inspiration from the state in which a person is aware that they are dreaming and may be able to experience the ecstasy of dreaming within control. Pascual’s works for the exhibit feature fluid repetition, feathery airbrush techniques, restrained lines, and geometric shapes that come together seamlessly to communicate the limitless, magical experience of this phenomena.

Much like the vast and inexhaustible possibilities that lucid dreaming presents, so too does abstraction allow Pascual to test the limits of his medium. The artist cites leading abstractionists John Hoyland, Helen Frankenthaler, and Wassily Kandinsky–all of whom made good use of abstraction’s ability to manipulate the boundless and expressive interrelation of form and color.
