Presenting the first solo exhibit of Jericho Vamenta, last year’s grand prize winner at the Philippine Art Awards. This collection explores the intricate and subtle mysteries of the domestic domain. Inspired by what transpires in his home, his works, created by intricately etched crosshatching on wet oil paint and composed of classically constructed dramatic figures, scratch beneath the surface of the mundane.Encoded in each character’s gesture is an intimate emotion, a visual code of our complex human condition. Ciphered in each object is a veiled suggestion, a visual narrative that alludes to possible truths in our private habits. These are lyrical visual metaphors that prompt our own associations and meanings. They enjoin us to take the introspective leap to use the canvas as a “magic mirror” that reveals our own everyday epiphanies.
