Entanglements explores how love, freedom, and unity are not isolated ideals but deeply interconnected forces that shape and define one another. In this exhibition, Mark Czar Espenilla examines these relationships through his intricate thread-on-canvas works, treating each strand as a metaphor for human connection, vulnerability, and resilience.

His works invite viewers into a slow, tactile reflection, each thread holding memory and intention. Espenilla has cultivated a distinct practice rooted in personal experience and quiet moments. What began as childhood drawings has matured into a meditative craft that honors the ties between emotion and materiality.

Through his distinctive thread-based works, Espenilla reflects on how these forces, often seen as separate, are in fact intertwined. Love makes room for freedom; freedom deepens the sense of unity; unity, in turn, expands the potential of love. These entanglements give rise to a more layered, more human way of seeing the world and ourselves.

Mark Czar Espenilla is a Manila-based artist whose thread-based works explore the interconnectedness of growth, time, and nature. Using textile techniques to render intricate images of leaves, blooms, birds, and branches, Espenilla’s pieces meditate on the cycles of renewal and the quiet beauty of transformation. From childhood sketches to complex stitched compositions, his evolving practice reflects both artistic maturity and a deep sensitivity to the organic rhythms of life.
