Art has no rules, unless there is a popular persona and public perception to consider. Darel Javier explores the boundaries of art making his pieces, combining figurative painting with glitches and abstract elements with humorous yet pointed commentary. Including the artist’s image in the narrative serves to add another layer of meaning despite the proliferation of appendages in shocking colors.

Raised in a family of artists, Darel Javier graduated with the degree in Architecture from La Consolation College. After migrating to North Carolina to work in construction related projects, he went back to Bacolod City to pursue being a full-time artist. His work was cited in 2014 as Juror’s Choice in the Philippine Art Awards Visayas.
