In a place where change is not constant and darkness overwhelms, what do we do?
BANYUHAY: The Transformative Nature of Light
This exhibit, “BANYUHAY,” explores light as a source of hope, and inevitably, transformation.
The artist beckons us to see even the infelicitous—strife, unrest, despair, and desolation—but he also invites us to look for the tiniest flicker of hope, the first break of dawn, the promise of a morning’s first flush, or a loved one’s face. The artist’s mind is deeply engraved in reality, yet is immersed in a dream that is transformative and transcendent.
Alfred Capiral shares with us his unique perspective that is starkly optimistic—he invites us to see the black and gloom, but leads our eyes into calm explosions of divine radiance and incandescence. The blinding light in the thick of shadow is a summon: a call for us to seek illumination, and a promise of change.
An elevated form of consciousness and life.
