In SELF, artists Art Lozano, Aner Sebastian, Binong Javier, Cid Reyes, Alfonso Recto, Ian Fulgar, Jane Ebarle, Marlon Magbanua, Rick Hernandez, Sam Penaso, and Valen Valero navigate the subtleties of their personal and artistic identities by laying it all out in their work on canvas. The result is a set of dynamic abstractions that reveal just how ambiguous our conceptions of individuality and selfhood can be.

Working with no boundaries or limitations, the artists seek to disassociate from outward circumstances that influence their perception of themselves. In so doing, they “choose themselves among possibilities”, as Sartre once said, and present a distillation of their individual identities in a series of colorful and potent abstract works.
