Felix Mago Miguel, a seasoned graphic artist and book designer, presents “Album: Walang Sugat,” a continuation of his artistic exploration that commenced in 2019. Delving into Philippine history and culture, he elucidates his understanding and appreciation through visual annotations, inviting viewers to confront contemporary dilemmas with a fresh perspective rooted in the past and an enduring hope for the future we choose to shape.

The exhibition’s title draws inspiration from Severino Reyes’s sarsuwela “Walang Sugat,” penned in 1898 but staged in 1902 due to its subversive nature during the American colonial period. The phrase “walang sugat” encapsulates triumph against adversity, resonating with the struggles for freedom, a theme echoing through history, urging us to question if we emerged from those chapters unscathed.

“Album: Walang Sugat” showcases portraits capturing a crucial period when Philippine identity and nationhood teetered on the edge of transformation. Derived from recorded narratives and photographs of the era, the symbols and iconography reflect a collective culture, offering updated stories preserving their relevance and significance.

Miguel’s artwork acts as a mirror to history, reminding us to learn from our past and collectively craft a future steeped in love—for others, our nation, and ourselves. The exhibition manifests the culmination of Miguel’s artistic journey, resonating with the hope that the portraits spark contemplation and dialogue among those who engage with them.
